The Kennedy Center, began as a bipartisan effort to build a National Cultural Arts Center in the Nation's Capital original fundraising started in November 1962 with a $30M campaign to begin construction. In 1963, shortly after John F Kennedy's assassination, Lyndon Johnson signed a Congressional Law to designate the building as living memorial to the late President. The Kennedy Center's is dedicated to showcasing classical and contemporary music, opera, drama, dance and other performing artists from both the US and around the world. Their mission is to cultivate a connection between the arts and the community by providing education, experiences and inspiration to its visitors. Their goal is to maintain the center as a living memorial to JFK while continuously celebrating cultural heritage and the arts."
